Ron's story so far - part 1

Ron Bernard was born in Partick, in the west end of Glasgow, Scotland on 28th January 19?? (we'll leave you to guess the year!)

Working Life

Leaving school at 15 years of age, Ron worked in Scot Legal Life Assurance Society (passing his O-level Math's and English and Higher English exams while he worked).

Ron then worked in Gents clothing shops ("older" readers may remember Claude Alexander’s, Tom Martin's and Dunn and Co.) before joining the Singer Sewing Machine Co. as Salesman, then becoming Manager which brought a move back to Partick.

On 27th December 1972 Ron went in to uniform when he joined the City of Glasgow Police.

Personal and Church Life

Before joining the Police Force Ron had married and was living in the desirable residential area of Bearsden, just outside Glasgow. Everything was going fine, Ron continued going to church ... life was rosy, there were no major problems.

But Ron's wife didn't settle into the shift work life of a Police Officer and, to cut a long story short, the marriage broke down and for the first time in his life things started going wrong for Ron.

After his divorce, most of the people he knew through church didn't want to know him. Some even crossed the road rather than have to pass him (people will always let you down - God won't)

At this time Ron threw himself into work and into a new lifestyle - Country Music was had always been a love of Ron's.

Ron started going to and singing in pubs. Church life was slowly replaced.

"I thought I was happy and that everything was going well. O how the Devil can deceive"
